Our bodies are constant companions as we navigate our lives. Our bodies do so much for us, and yet they can also elicit tremendous emotional pain and shame in our day-to-day lives. If you want to begin to take steps to feel more at home in your body, I invite you to learn more about the resources that are available that will support you in your journey.

Know that you are not alone

As you begin your journey in exploring your relationship with your body, know that you are not alone. There are various agencies/body positive communities that have emerged that are dedicated to supporting individuals in making peace with their bodies, healing from eating disorders, and working through body dysmorphia.

Body Brave

Body Brave is an agency based in Hamilton (though their services are accessible nation wide) that offers online, self-guided support programming, as well as group and individual treatment services for ages 17 and above .

Body Brave's programming offers support for a wide array of challenges faced by individuals as they strive toward making peace with their bodies, including body checking, coping with bad body image days, recognizing the eating disorder voice, dealing with diet culture, and more. Services offered through Body Brave is free (OHIP covered).

Sheena's Place offers group-based support to people aged 17+ affected by an eating disorder or disordered eating. Their professionally-facilitated groups are completely free of charge. Sheena's Place offers a variety of services including support groups, skill building groups, expressive arts groups, and body image and movement groups.
